Anglian Combination Division 3 South - Matchday 23

With an awarded home walkover against East Harling earlier in the week, Mulbarton had won 9 games in a row before the weekends fixture against Yarmouth Res.

More good news in the camp earlier in the week as the squad welcomed back last seasons top goal scorer and players player Oakley Curson.

Despite Yarmouth only having 10 available players, to their credit, they fielded a side rather than cancel.

As expected, Mulbarton started on the front foot and sustained that for the whole game.
First blood was drawn in the opening minutes as a Burke corner was met by the stooping header by an unlikely Dan Pullen to record his 2nd goal of the season.

One became two shortly after as top scorer Josh Buttery extended his goal tally and our lead following a nice team move on the left with Saxby playing the final through ball for Buttery to finish into the far corner.

The third came inside 15 minutes, as a sumptuous Saxby ball played over the top to the lively Oakley Curson, whose excellent first touch and near post shot, marked a goal on his return to the team.

Mulbarton's fourth was scored by Burke, as a dainty Ted Cozens danced his way through 3 players and unselfishly squared for Burke to notch from 10 yards. Burke scoring again to get his 5th of the season, and his 4th in 5 games, as team mate Ben Johnson continues to remind him of his form.

Before half time, Mulbarton made it 5-0, as Buttery assisted Curson for his debut brace.

5-0 HT

A couple of changes saw Harry Palmer and Dan Kaszczak enter the field.

In the 55th minute, Mulbarton were awarded a penalty as Reeve was fouled by the Yarmouth GK, and despite his attempts of getting a hand to it, the finish rolled past the line. Buttery's brace meant he has scored 20 goals this season in 17 games. A phenomenal feat, with 3 games still to play.

7-0 came following a Curson cross down the left which was volleyed home by Kaszczak for his first goal for the adult team. Kaszczak has played his way though the Mulbarton youth set up and currently plays for the U18’s also.

The eight and final goal was another first goal for the club as Harry Palmer, found himself on the edge of the box who struck a lovely left footed effort into the bottom corner. Palmer’s celebration highlighting the unfamiliar experience for him.

8-0 FT

The team created several other great opportunities with Buttery and Reeve coming close numerous times.

A sound, disciplined display from our defensive unit including Thompson, Smith, Pullen, Johnson, Edwards, Palmer and McDonnell meant the team gained their 8th clean sheet of the season.

Atrium Associates MOM went to Burke, who declined to comment when asked about his performance.
