The reserves came into their second NR14 derby of the season against a decent Yelverton side.
The team had a disastrous start as after 5 minutes, a penalty was awarded to Yelverton for a handball against Dan Pullen. The resulting spot kick was scored by Yelverton and the opening 10 minutes were in the away team’s favour. The scoreline could’ve been more, if not for GK Scott Thompson smart save with his feet following a 1v1 against the Yelverton right winger.
Mulbarton finally found their foothold in the game and started to create chances, coming close several times and becoming progressively wasteful. The team were buoyed by their performance in the latter part of the first half and came in at HT 1-0 but confident that if they continued with the momentum, goals would flow.
A single change was made at HT, with Adam Wooltorton coming on for the injured Buddy Reeve. Adam returning against his former club. The second half commenced and the momentum was resumed with Mulbarton on the front foot.
Just shy of 60 minutes, a corner was rightly awarded after the linesman and referee required clarity from Burke. Wooltorton took the corner which ended up coming back to him on the edge of the box, taking on two defenders and firing in his trademark whip into the near corner.
The winner came several minutes later, this time Buttery on the scoresheet. His 14th goal in 13 games. Churchill providing the assist following Jamie Edwards releasing him down the left, where he beat his man and crossing for Buttery to prod past the Yelverton GK.
The third and final goal came from another Churchill cross, meeting Adam Wooltorton in the centre of the box to finish for his brace for the afternoon.
The Atrium Associates MOM was rightly awarded to Adam Wooltorton for his stellar 2nd half performance.
The 3-1 victory means Mulbarton remains top of the league and next week play Yelverton once more at The Garrick.
