The reserves commenced their run of November fixtures with a trip to East Norfolk against Great Yarmouth Town Reserves.
After a slow start to the game where Mulbarton struggled to get a foothold and Yarmouth looked dangerous in the final third, Mulbarton were fortunate to come in at HT 0-0, following an excellent penalty save by Scott Thompson in the Mulbarton net. Momentum swung in Wanderer’s favour following an early personnel change in the 35th minute and finished the first half with their tails up as they began to cause issues for the Bloaters defence.
The second half followed on from the latter stages of the first, and soon Mulbarton had their first golden opportunity as Calum Burke split the defence playing through Josh Buttery who brilliantly rounded the GK, only to fire into the side netting. With the wind in Wanderer’s sails, the opening goal came soon after with a lovely team goal, coming down the left hand side with Jamie Edwards passing into Sam Churchill, who played a 1-2 with Burke before playing onto the back foot of Buttery, who on the edge of the D wrapped a sumptuous finish into the top left hand corner, kissing the post as it flew in. Buttery notches his 10th goal of the season and draws level with Reeve for goal scored as they both hold joint 2nd place in the league.
Mulbarton’s pressure resulted in a second goal later in the half after good work down the left hand side again as Churchill crossed into the box met a flick on from Buttery which landed on the edge of the 6 yard box into the path of Adam Wooltorton who half volleys into the top of the net. Wooltorton fired in his 4th of the season as he returned to the squad following a back injury which ruled him out for several weeks.
Great Yarmouth got their goal in the 92nd minute as Burke’s misplaced pass was intercepted on the halfway mark and the Yarmouth player was able to dribble to the edge of the box with several players around him and slot into the corner of the net.
Some notable good stops were made by Scott Thompson in goal who kept the scores equal heading into the break but an impressive display from 16 year old Ted Cozens earned him MOM.
