Admit it, you're glad that's over? No game for the wanderers at the weekend meant we could all join in with the much adored early season International Break. Rumour has it this was due to a potential England call up for Eliot Altay as a reward for his scintillating start to the season but Southgate opted for Jake Livermore instead..... stick to the pizza hut adverts Gareth! Fortunately the weekend was not completely bereft of Mulbarton Football as the Reserves thumped Downham Town Reserves 7-1 at Mulberry Park. Dom Doggett and Jamie George were handed run outs by Gaskin & Co and the latter proved to be in fine form as he ended the game with 4 goals to his name. Elsewhere, The A Team kicked off their season with a 2-0 victory over new boys Hethersett courtesy of a Tom Brown brace.

Attention now turns to the weekend as the First Team begin their Mummery Cup defence with a tricky first round away trip to Attleborough Town. The two sides played out a five goal thriller during pre season which was won by Mulbarton via an injury time penalty scored by Jamie George. Despite losing the game, Attleborough showed they are capable of playing some very good football and Mulbarton will have to be at their best if they are to progress into the second round. In the league, our opponents have experienced a mixed start to the season with a record of 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats in Division 1.

Head to Head

Mulbarton fans will have fond memories of the last time we met Attleborough in Cup Competition as we were drawn to meet in the 2012/13 Cyril Ballyn Cup Semi Final. George Newbery was the hero that day, scoring the only goal of the game to send Mulbarton into the final against Bungay Town. Joseph Pattison and Mark Appleton fired us to a 2-1 victory in the final which was played at Watton Sports Centre. The First Team then went on to secure promotion to Division 2 which meant we would meet Attleborough Town in the league during the following season. Results as follows:

30/08/13 - Mulbarton Wanderers 2 - 1 Attleborough Town
(Goals - Joseph Pattison and Dale Simpson)

18/01/14 - Attleborough Town 1 - 2 Mulbarton Wanderers
(Goals - Calvin Butler and James McCloy)
