Wanderers scored four again away from home and now trail league leaders Harleston Town by two points with five games remaining.

Wanderers arrived in Mattishall looking to extend our five game winning run but knew it would be another tough test and it was clear from the first few challenges of the game that the home side were going to be no pushover. The first chance of the game fell to the Mattishall no. 4 who saw his effort trickle agonisingly past the post following good pressure from Curtis and McAnally. It was close enough that the home bench had started to celebrate.

Wanderers responded almost immediately when Aulert found Woodgate at the back post but he saw both of his strikes blocked by the sea of bodies being thrown in front of him. This was followed by a worrying moment when a late challenge on Guyton left him writhing in agony. The Mulbarton faithful were convinced that would be the end of Jack's game but after Selfy worked some magic he was up and eager to continue, albeit moving as gingerly as his hair.

Woodgate then had another effort blocked before Duncan McAnally made a huge save from Huckle when many were expecting the net to bulge. It proved to be an even bigger save as Wanderers went straight down the other end and Thompson made a driving run into the area before slipping the ball to Jack Guyton who calmly stroked the ball past the keeper for his 8th of the season. 0-1

A foul on Gibbons allowed Woodgate to try his luck once again but his Free-Kick was a little too high and over the bar. Then on the half hour mark Simmo pinched possession in the middle of the park and sent Thompson running down the right and he put it on a plate for Scott Woodgate to slide in and score for the 5th game in a row. 0-2

Mattishall's no. 5 then congratulated Woody for his goal with a strong challenge which earned him a yellow card. The remainder of the half continued to have an even feel to it and a series of corners were defended well by both sides.

Half-Time | Mattishall 0-2 Mulbarton Wanderers.

The in-form Charlie Aulert then provided the pertect start to the half when he chased down the keeper and diverted his attempted clearance into the path of Thompson. With the angle against him, Thommo unselfishly squared the ball back for Chaz to sidefoot past the keeper for his 4th of the season. A hat-trick of assists for Thompson following his hat-trick of goals midweek. 0-3

Then came a succession of chances for Mattishall when a lovely cross was met by Huckle but his header was just wide of the post. McAnally was then called into action once again with another super save. The big man was certainly earning his clean sheet.

The home side then made a double substitution and the first task for the number 15 was to enter a race with Aulert on the right wing and there was only one winner as Chaz skipped past and delivered a peach of a ball into Woodgate who powered his header past the keeper for his second of the game. 0-4

Woodgate then made way for Potter who had an eventful introduction to the game. He first had the ball in the net after a bit of pinball in the box but he was denied his first goal of the season by an offside flag. He was then the victim of a late challenge from the Mattishall no. 5 who was already on a yellow but shown a straight red with 12 minutes remaining.

With Mattishall down to 10 men, further chances fell to Doggett, Thompson, Aulert and Simpson but neither were able to trouble the keeper before the referee signalled the end of the game and Wanderers reduced the gap at the top of the table to two points with five games remaining.

Full-Time | Mattishall 0-4 Mulbarton Wanderers.
