Ben Thompson continued his fine recent run of form by scoring a brace before setting up Jamie George to grab his first goal since returning from injury.

Wanderers made two changes to the squad that travelled to Harleston as Joel Potter and Adam Bennett came in for Miles Palmer, who was on Norfolk County FA U18's duty and Jack Guyton due to the injury sustained during last week's game.

The weather forecast had lied to us and both teams were presented with difficult conditions as the rain began to fall prior to kick off which added a bit of extra squelch to the Mulberry Park surface. However, this did not prevent a lively start by both sides and it was end to end stuff during the opening ten minutes. The game was being played at a fast tempo and opportunities were created for both Anton Ward and Scott Woodgate which neither were able to convert.

Caister looked full of confidence and continued to commit players forward in search of the opening goal but it was Wanderers who struck the first blow with a counter attack started by Hayden Gibbons, who was quick to play a delicious long ball into the path of Ben Thompson who was too fast for his marker and collected the ball before calmly rounding Molloy and stroking the ball into the empty net for his sixth goal in as many games. 1-0

This did not change the pattern of the game and the away side were not seem fazed by going a goal behind. Both teams exchanged a couple of half chances with Middleton and Doggett both coming close before Thompson was played in once again by Gibbons but Molloy saved well on this occasion. He was then quick to send Caister on a counter of their own and a lovely team move was finished beautifully by Scott Woodcock to level the score at 1-1.

Wanderers responded well to the equaliser and were nearly ahead once again ten minutes before the break courtesy of a Danny Self corner. Bland was unable to get his head on the initial delivery as the ball bounced off his shoulder towards Thompson who sent a half volley crashing against the upright. It was then Caister's turn to attack and Ward was denied by a strong hand from Wright to ensure we went in level.

Half-Time | Mulbarton Wanderers 1-1 Caister

Mulbarton came flying out of the blocks in the second half and were ahead after two minutes when Gibbons produced another quality ball into space to exploit the pace of Charlie Aulert, The Caister Left-Back did well to keep up but was outmuscled and fell to ground before Chaz cut the ball back for Thompson to restore our lead with a smart finish through a crowd of players. That's now 10 league goals from 13 apps for Thommo compared to 8 from 26 last season. 2-1

Both sides then proceeded to cancel eachother out for the majority of the half.  Woodgate sent Doggett running down the left wing and he delivered a lovely ball onto the head of Thompson who did well to generate enough power to steer the ball goalwards but Molloy was equal to the effort and denied what would have been a deserved hat-trick.

Caister continued to press for an equaliser but were finding it increasingly difficult to penetrate the steely Wanderers defence and started to show signs of frustration at the amount of times they were being flagged offside. The nerves were building amongst the Mulbarton faithful but those nerves were suppressed when Wanderers won possession and sent Thompson running through on goal in the final minute of the game. Thommo could have been selfish and gone for goal himself but opted to square to substitute Jamie George, who dropped a feint of his shoulder to send the keeper to ground before taking a touch and passing the ball into the net to secure his sixth of the season and three more points on the table.
