Local football is back in full swing following the Christmas Break and this weekend serves up what promises to be a barnstorming game of football between two sides challenging for the 2017/18 Sterry Cup. Wanderers travel to Wilderness Lane to take on league leaders Harleston Town in a repeat of this seasons Don Frost Cup which was won via a dramatic 9-8 penalty shoot-out sealed by Super Tom Wright back in August.
Since then Harleston have been in superlative form, winning their first twelve league games before being halted in December by a spirited Blofield side who earned a 0-0 draw followed by a stunning 6-1 defeat away to Norwich CEYMS. Indeed, like all strong sides they bounced back last week as they put seven past Reepham Town which further cemented their place at the top of the scoring charts after hitting 51 goals in 15 games.
Wanderers have also impressed this season as we too have won all but two of our league games to date and currently sit top of the form table after winning six on the bounce, registering four clean sheets in the process. Self and Thompson will be hoping this recent vein of form continues tomorrow as the latter prepares to make his 50th appearance for the club. Thommo has netted in each of his last four games and there is every chance the goals will continue to flow for Ben and co. if the team can continue to match the same levels of performance shown in recent weeks.
Our Opponents
There is no doubt that Town have quality all over the pitch so there is not only one or two for Wanderers to contain but one man in particular seems to be enjoying himself this season and that is Connor Delaney. He has found the net on 10 occasions this season after pitching in with 4 in the previous campaign. We can also not afford to ignore the threat provided by the likes of Russell, Roberts and Pearce to name a few but having met on five occasions since September 2016, both teams will feel they know enough about eachother and the only certainty is an entertaining game of football.
