The First Team scored the only goal of the game to bring home three points from Mattishall

Mulbarton travelled to Mattishall as the only game in the league on the day due to the weather.

Mulbarton looked to build on last week good performance against Wroxham Reserves last week. They were forced into 2 late changes with Gibbons and Durrant becoming unavailable due to personal reasons and illness.

Mattishall began the game the better side and really tested Mulbarton in the first 15 minutes by putting lots of crosses into the visitors’ area. Mulbarton held strong and grew into the game as it went along.

The longer the game went along the more hotly contested it became with both sides fully committed to push for a win. As Mulbarton got a foot hold in the game they brought Thompson and Smith into the game more with both willing runners to gain territory in the game. With both having good opportunities to score Smith will be disappointed with his miss from close range. And Thompson was denied by a great save by the home keeper, which was a theme of the afternoon.

The option given by the forwards gave the visitors a string of corners in a short period of time when at the 5th time of asking Curtis got on the end of Self’s corner to bring the ball down and fire home left footed form 7yds.

The game remained tight up to half time.

Mattishall began the second half well and pushed again for the equaliser but the Wanderers held strong during this period as a unit. Again Mulbarton grew into the half and began to manage the game to suit them. The whole side working very hard to keep the honest Mattishall side at arm’s length. This allowed Wanderers to pick off the home side on the break. Smith, Doggett, Porter and Thompson all getting in good position only to be stopped by a string of good saves from the home stopper.

Mulbarton controlled the final minutes of the game to take a hard fought 3pts and clean sheet and a very tough place to go.
