Wanderers Disappoint in Derby

After a brilliant senior cup victory Mulbarton returned to league action with a local derby in the league at CEYMS.

Mulbarton made 3 changes from last weeks team, Johnny Large came in for Palmer, Guiness returned in goal and Curtis replaced Smith.

The game began at a good tempo with both sides trying to play. Mulbarton then into self destruction mode conceding 3 goals in a 15min spell of madness. Poor marking from a freekick and 2 mistakes gave the home side a large lead quickly.

Mulbarton regrouped and began to play again. Wanderers were getting joy from finding the running of Thompson down both sides of the home teams defence. This led to Mulbarton giving themselves a glimmer of hope with Thompson finishing well after being put in down the left.

After some discussion at half time Mulbarton went into the second half with a point to prove. They pushed on and created a number of chances and opportunities with a higher tempo and some good movement. Unfortunately they couldn't take one of these opportunities.

Whilst pushing on to get back into the game Mulbarton left gaps for the home side to play in and they took advantage of this space, coming close on a number of occasions before making it 4-1 with 15 mins to go after a mis-placed pass in the CEYMS' penalty area led to a fast counter attack down the left which was well finished well.

Mulbarton continued to press and create more opportunities mainly from corners but these came to nothing.

The home side saw out the remaining minutes and claimed the 3pts and deserved victory with a real team performance and ethic that Mulbarton couldn't match on the day.
