A disappointing second half showing condemns Wanderers to their first defeat of the season

With Mulberry park looking splendid we welcomed Waveney for this ang comb Prem fixture. The game began with an even share of the exchanges in the first 10 minutes.

MWFC took a grip of the game on 15 minutes, Josh Farrow releasing Jamie Smith behind the right side of the Waveney defence, Smith cut and squared perfectly for Mark Appleton to slot away. A good start.

Wanderers just shaded the remainder of the 1st half with good game management in what looked like it was going to be fairly even contest all night. With neither side really testing the opposing goal keeper in the first 45 minutes. The only down side of the first half was Rossy Durrant having to go off after 30 minutes injured, replaced by John Curtis

After the break Waveney immediately took the game to MWFC and after 3 minutes of the half they pressed down their left, linked well with the front man to get into a dangerous crossing position. The cross was delivered to the back post for the Waveney winger Wilson to leap higher than the MWFC def and header down past the hapless Guiness.

Both sides huffed and puffed in a game of lots of direct football but neither carving out any clear opportunities. Wanderers looked to release Appleton and Smith at every opportunity but the Waveney defence held strong as a unit covering each other well. As the half went on Waveney got more of a foot-hold as Mulbarton became predictable in possession.

Around the 79th minute the home side were made to pay for lack of communication from a Waveney throw in, with 3 players rushing to the ball in over-eagerness, the ball was neatly flicked over them onto an on-rushing Waveney player whose miss-hit shot from the edge of the Wanderers area fell kindly to the only player on the move; a Waveney attacker who calmly finish at the back post.

With 10 minutes remaining this should have sparked Mulbarton into life in an attempt to salvage something, which it did to an extent, in the 88th minute. Good work down the left found Jamie Smith behind the Waveney right back, Smith delivered a deep cross to the on rushing Doggett who had timed his run well and met the ball with his head but he couldn't keep the header down.

Shortly after saw a moment of true quality from Waveneys Bradley Hough. The ball broke to him 10-15 yards outside of the MWFC area, where he let the ball run past him before unleashing a volley that flew over the again helpless Guiness, who stood no chance with all 3 goals on the night, and into the Mulbarton net.

This condemned MWFC to their first defeat of the season. Credit to Waveney who on tonight's showing will be a force in this league if they can maintain the start and performances they have had.
