Appleton hits another hat-trick in good victory over Scole United.

Wanderers travelled to Ransome Avenue keen to put a stop to a recent run of poor results we had suffered against Scole.
The hosts had the first sight of goal after a good move involving Cussons and Goulding resulted in the latter’s effort being deflected over the bar. Scole had the ball in the back of the net after Clifford had pulled off an excellent save to deny a volleyed effort – the ball rebounded back off the crossbar but Cussons’ effort was ruled out for offside.
Wanderers began to play some slick attacking football and took the lead when Simpson struck from the edge of the penalty area and the ball bounced back from the post and Appleton reacted first to tap in the rebound.
Mulbarton were now on top and looking to get the ball forward as quick as possible with the pace, skill and power of Appleton, Freemantle and Simpson causing the Scole defence plenty of problems. Freemantle was released down the left and he turned inside before playing a ball through the home defence into the path of Appleton who, seeing the keeper way off his line, chipped in from the edge of the box.
Tempers of the home team began to fray and a number of tough challenges began to fly in – some fair, some not. Wanderers to their credit kept their composure and continued to play their game, seeing out the first half to take a good 2-0 lead into the break.
HT – Scole 0-2 Mulbarton
With the second half continuing as the first had ended it was from a Scole freekick that Mulbarton scored, counter-attacking superbly Curtis slipped Freemantle in on the left before continuing his run into the penalty area where Freemantle found him with a great cross which was headed into the net, just out of reach of the Scole keeper at full stretch.
Appleton then killed the game as a contest when he raced clear of the home defence to score, completing his second hat-trick in as many games.
The hosts grabbed an equaliser when they were awarded a penalty for handball. The initial shot was well saved by Clifford but only Scole’s Solley reacted and he made no mistake with the rebound.
Full Time – Scole 1 – 4 Mulbarton
This was an extremely professional performance from the Wanderers players who dealt with the physical nature of the game and a couple of flashpoints very well, concentrating on their game plan and executing it to almost-perfection. The back four were immense all game, only allowing two or three attempts by the hosts and the front three were very effective with great movement and link-up play throughout.
Man of the Match – Mark Appleton. Scored three goals and worked very well with the players around him.
