Old foes punish Wanderers for slack defending.

Wanderers rang the changes with numerous players returning after missing the win over Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves.
After an even opening 5 minutes the visitors took the lead from a corner. The ball was flicked on at the near post and and Marc Pearce arrived unchallenged to finish from close range.
Despite this setback Wanderers began to get a foothold on the game and played some attractive football at times, threatening to split the Scole defence open using our pace but only to be denied by some stout defending and some over-hit passes.
Jamie Butler came closest to scoring with a fierce drive which was tipped around the post, then Mark Appleton almost broke free of the Scole back line but was halted in his tracks by a well- timed last-ditch challenge.
HT – Mulbarton 0-1 Scole
Wanderers pushed for an equaliser in the second half and on 65 minutes they came extremely close when a free-kick from Pipe found Farrow in the penalty area and his header was superbly saved by the Scole keeper. It wasn’t long before Mulbarton found the goal their play had deserved and it was Farrow who scored it though it looked rather fortuitous. A corner from the right was whipped in low at the near post and it somehow squeezed between the man on the post and the goalkeeper to find the back of the net.
The game opened up now and Scole almost regained the lead when Cussons was played through on the left side of the penalty area and his powerful strike looked destined for the top corner only to be brilliantly palmed away by Clifford who was diving in the other direction.
The marauding Ramsbottom almost gave us the lead when he beat two men and raced into the penalty area but his final touch was either a shot or a cross (we were unsure which) and it flew wide of the far post.
Mark Appleton broke through but when one-on-one his effort dragged wide of the post and with just five minutes to go Mulbarton conceded a corner which Scole took full advantage of, once again. This time a failed clearance landed at the feet of Cussons and he rifled home the winner.
FT – Mulbarton 1-2 Scole
The lads were bitterly disappointed with the result in a game where we felt we had been the better side, but we cannot take anything away from Scole who battled hard throughout and took advantage of the goal scoring situations they found themselves in.
Man of the Match – David Ramsbottom. “Rambo” didn’t deserve to be on the losing side today and his work rate throughout was an example to all.
Wanderers: Clifford, Ramsbottom, Sutcliffe, Reading, McKail, Farrow, J. Butler, Curtis, Freemantle, Pipe, Appleton
Subs: Babb, C. Butler, Doggett
