Wanderers faced Thurlow Nunn Premier Division outfit Gorleston FC and on paper you might have been excused for expecting a one-sided affair, however the 14 players who were available did themselves proud with another committed and disciplined performance.
After a goal-less first half the Greens took the lead almost immediately after the restart with Wanderers guilty of losing possession cheaply and perhaps caught napping at the back the Gorleston front man took his goal very well. Heads didn't drop though and a few minutes later Mulbarton were level again. A surging counter-attack led to a corner which was taken short and eventually Simon Freemantle got his shot away and into the bottom corner.
With a few minutes to go Gorleston stole the ball in midfield, moved into the penalty area and their centre forward grabbed his second goal of the game with Wanderers now looking tired. For the final few minutes Gorleston slowed the play down, retaining possession and killing the game off - which our lads should take as a compliment.
Thanks to Ricci Butler and his players for a great work out. We wish them all the best in their season.
Next up is a visit to Diss Town on Tuesday 28th of July for a 7:45pm kick off.
